Renae’s Day Out

And now for something completely different, I took the girls to the park. Renae thought it was really cool to watch her big sister!

You would think just watching would get old, but I guess Hannah provided plenty of variety!

All in all, it was a great day at the park! Everyone had fun, and we got out of the hose for a while 🙂

Purchases

Background on this quote: Hannah has started doing chores, and earning money from doing them. She can then spend some of that money on toys, but it requires quite a bit of savings. She has started to bemoan the time required to save for another Paw Patrol.

(While helping put some very frilly socks on Renae)

Hannah: Dad, baby socks are really fancy!

Jordan: yes, sometimes they are.

H: Not like my socks… Well, maybe I could get some fancy socks!

J: That might be good.

H: But you should pay for them, because I am saving for a toy.

Headaches

I keep meaning to write down all the quotes I hear from Hannah, and figured this might be a good place to put them.

So, we are driving and hit an uneven spot that kind of rocks the car.

Hannah: “Daddy, the wobbly spots make my head hurt”

Me: “I see. You know what else can make your head hurt?”

H: what?

M: whinging

H: no dad, that only makes your head hurt.

The New Digs

We made it!

It looks like the embedded images aren’t quite how I would like them… but they came over.

I would love to say that being over on the new blog-only hosting means I would be back to regular posting, but… I shouldn’t make promises I can’t keep.

Nurse Hannah

Heather caught some sort of nasty 24 hour stomach bug that really knocked her down Sunday. While that’s no fun, it’s not really a newsworthy event when you are interacting with toddlers on a daily basis.

What was newsworthy, or at least qualifies as “something I hope to remember” was how Hannah responded.

Once she realized mommy wasn’t feeling good, Hannah would not leave her side. Heather curled up on the couch to watch a Christmas movie, and Hannah crawled up into the blankets with her, and quietly watched an entire move next to mom! I don’t know if I can properly express how unusual that is. Normally if the TV is showing *anything* that isn’t Elmo (including non Elmo-centric content on the Elmo show) Hannah will reliably throw a fit. She also appeared to be unable to sit still on the couch with us for more than two minutes; judging from prior experience.

It was a very Sweet scene in our house, that I would have loved to take pictures of, but given that this all started when Heather started feeling awful, I don’t imagine it would be popular had I taken a picture of the two of them and posted it online. Just imagine those two cuddled up on the couch under a blanket 🙂

When not nursing her mommy back to health, Hannah commandeered an old purse as hers. You might wonder what an almost two-year-old would keep in a purse? Every Christmas tree ornament she can reach of course! She hasn’t protested much when we re-decorate the tree, but she also hasn’t been afraid to restock her purse when we aren’t looking. Every day brings new stuff I guess.

Fun Facts

Well, I don’t know how fun… but I have had all these random things bouncing around in my head waiting until I had time to pull together a blog post, and none of them quite justify a stand alone post.

A few firsts (and I suspect this year will be full of firsts, but anyway…)

I snaked my first drain. My preparatory youtube session (the oracle of home improvement how-tos!) had me prepared for a giant nasty hairball from the drain in our bathroom sink that wasn’t working quite right. What I eventually recovered was instead a few bobby-pins tangled up with a pair of tweezers. The drain works much better now.

I bought a bow saw, and did some tree-trimming. As mundane as that sounds, it was noteworthy for how odd it felt to be responsible for some trees. They are kind of scraggly trees, so I don’t think I can mess things up too much.

Heather and I both got to experience the joys of getting a drivers license in a new state, especially the fun of getting our vehicles a safety inspection. Oddly I don’t feel any safer now than I did before, but then we were on good terms with our Des Moines mechanic, so maybe that isn’t so surprising.

I logged just short of 400 miles driving to and from work last week. I haven’t found the drive to be that taxing so far, but I suspect I will become a connoisseur of podcasts and audio-books.

Well, that is probably enough rambling… hopefully I can be more focused next time around 🙂

Changes On The way

So that essay plan? Yeah I have one about half written, but it turns out I can’t just sit down and bang out something thoughtful so… I may have to plan my time more carefully for that to work out.

But what else could be imposing on my time?

Well…

We are moving to Kansas City!

Heather’s employer provided the option of moving there with her job. Given that we were looking to move somewhere, and there aren’t a lot of places in the Midwest that are viable for both my job and hers it was an opportunity we couldn’t say no to.

We have known for a while now, but didn’t want to say too much until we had a few things locked in / communicated, but at this point I think we have most of the details figured out. In just a few weeks we will be moving into a house in Parkville MO.

What does this mean for us?

  • I have to learn how to spell missury messuri muzury Missouri
  • Hannah will have an entire yard full of grass to contend with
  • Going to the garage won’t involve three flights of stairs and crossing a street
  • Heather and I will both be giving up our sub-20 minute commutes

And, probably other things we haven’t even thought of.

It has been exciting and kept us really busy, but I think we are nearly ready for the move. I suppose this does open up all sorts of opportunities to come up with blog posts, so that will be good too!

Document Security

I shredded some documents tonight, as one should when the contain personal and or financial information.

It did occur to me however, that I could probably get sufficiently good security simply by placing the documents in a bag with a few cups of water and placing them in the dumpster tonight. The combination of -10 temperature and a 20 mile and hour would, I am certain, work to both transform the documents into a form that could not be readily used, and to deter snoopers prior to their being covered in other garbage.

So, I guess what I am saying is that I should really be using this latest cold front to my advantage! Think of all the wear and tear I could save on the shredder!

First Cold Of Fall

That’s a milestone right?

Hannah picked out a great one at daycare, and then carefully cultivated it before lovingly sharing it with mom and dad.

On the one hand, she wanted to cuddle, and that is rare these days, on the other hand she was unhappy, and holding her didn’t soothe her as much as she would have liked.

That picture was taken before the cold really hit Heather or I. Two weeks and a prescription for antibiotics each, and Heather and I are almost back to normal. Somehow Hannah kicked this thing much faster than we did. 🙂

P.S I suppose I am obligated to admit that I am aware that I haven’t posted in like two months, and that this post is a little light on the word count, so um… noted 😉 I can’t say if this is a trend I will be able to reverse or not.
