Valentine’s 2012

Heather and I might not be exciting people. I say this, because it is the only conclusion I can really draw when faced with the events of Valentine’s day this year. That being said, it was a good day… Just not terribly exciting.

The day started off with Heather giving me Saint Petersburg the board game. We discovered this game over the weekend, at the West Des Moines Board Game Club. It isn’t the sort of game that ether of us would initially be drawn too, but thanks to the people at the game night, once we learned it, it was really enjoyable.

Before we got a chance to actually play the game, I tried out a new recipe: Stuffed Panko Crusted Chicken. I think it went rather well, and Heather stated that I should take a picture of it, so I must not be the only one who thought it came out ok.

We then played a lovingly contested game of St Petersburg… Pretty good for a work night 😉

November Close Out

I was going to write a Thanksgiving recap post… and then realized it would basically be a list of food and family.

Lets be honest, I enjoyed both. Probably more than enough food and not enough socializing with family, still Thanksgiving was great.

Other news around here is that our microwave quit working. In a way it’s a milestone, being the first real unexpected expense as homeowners now that we are fully moved. Not really a happy milestone, but a milestone none the less.

In a related note, I am proud to say that we have gone a week without it now, and it hasn’t impacted our meal-planning to any discernible extent. Probably my biggest frustration is that I can’t make a single cup of tea at night very quickly without it.

aaaand I am going to wrap this up before I got off on 1000 different tangents. I forgot how hard it is to write a post when I don’t have a topic and a rough draft in mind when I sit down 🙂

I will close with a picture of Heather and I in a goose blind. It’s probably the closest she will ever be to hunting with me, so It’s worth sharing right?

The Day After Veterans Day

I had yesterday off, and that somehow translated into not getting anything posted.

What did I do with an entire day off?

Put new tires on my escape, and attempted to make lasagna from scratch! Both tasks took much longer than I expected. The end result was that the time from 1:00pm until 7:00 pm that I had 100% free was not sufficient to complete both 😦

I think the lasagna will probably be good, but I ran out of time to actually bake it, after making the sauce and assembling it in the pan. We are going to bake it tonight, so hopefully setting in the fridge over night wont hurt it too much. Alas, no pictures… I was going to shoot a few, but I was distracted worrying about time and never remembered to grab my camera (that was laying on my desk… mere feet away)

I should also mention that getting a Tuesday off really throws off your perception of what day it is… I still cant tell if its Monday or Wednesday.
